Marie Ferber (Mrs. Marie)
Half-Day Assistant

I graduated from NIU in May 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood
Education and a Minor in Special Education. I completed my Montessori
certification in 2004. I began working at NSMS in June 1999 as a
Teacher/Directress. I worked from June 1999 - May 2010 in the Full Day
program, mainly in room 1. Currently, I am in the half day program in room 6 as
an assistant.
I love to watch the children grow and become more and more independent. I love
being able to help them reach that goal. I love the look of fulfillment when a
challenging task has been accomplished. I love to hear them giggle and to see
them smile!
I love the philosophy. The Montessori Method is an amazing way to learn. I
love stepping back and watching it happen. The classroom is full of
opportunities for the children to learn while having a great time. I also love
how our school is small and quaint. It makes the environment more personal and
it doesn't feel overwhelming.. After awhile, everyone knows each other.
Fun Facts:
My husband and I have a little girl, Rachel. My favorite children’s book author
is Richard Scarry. My favorite weekend activity is scrapbooking! I love to
scrapbook!! I also love to go on bike rides, go camping, go hiking and I love
to swim.
My favorite artist is Ansel Adams and my favorite composer is Beethoven.
When I was a child, I wanted to be a pediatrician. I broke my femur when I was
6 years old and spent a month in the hospital in traction. My doctors were all
dull and boring. I wanted to be a fun doctor, one all the kids loved!!
